New Father McGivney Book Available

'This book should be on every Knight's bookshelf says Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson

A major new biography of Knights of Columbus founder Father Michael J. McGivney is now in print. Parish Priest: Father Michael McGivney and American Catholicism was written by New York Times bestselling author Douglas Brinkley, with Julie M. Fenster.  The 272-page book includes eight pages of illustrations and is being published by William Morrow, a division of HarperCollins ($24.95)
"This book should be on every Knight's bookshelf," said Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson.  "It also should be on every best-seller list, because it is a great book about a great Catholic priest, who also happens to be the founder of the Knights of Columbus."
"We Knights must help make this book the best seller that it deserves to be," he said.  "Father McGivney's life story is a relevant story for the Catholic Church today," Anderson said.  "He deserves to be a household name beyond Knights of Columbus house- holds."
Brinkley has said that Father McGivney's story and what he accomplished in founding the Knights deserves to be more well known.  "His is a unique contribution to Catholicism in America," said Brinkley, who has also written books on Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Rosa Parks and Henry Ford.
After attending a lecture on Father McGivney that Brinkley delivered last fall in Stamford, Conn., Supreme Chaplain Bishop William E. Lori said he hoped young Catholics especially would read Brinkley's book.  "This book will show young people the possibilities God has for them," Bishop Lori said.
Dominican Father Gabriel B. O'Donnell, postulator of the cause for sainthood of Father McGivney, worked closely with Brinkley and Fenster on the book.
"Readers will be charmed by the accounts of Father McGivney's world and the many characters who influenced him.  Everyone will come to know the greatness hidden in the disguise of this ordinary parish priest," said Father O'Donnell.

Knights are urged to buy the book then or to order it online from their preferred online book retailer on or after Jan. 2.
