Protecting Catholic Families for Generations

Message From the Grand Knight

As I am sure you are aware, we have just passed the anniversary of the ‘Roe vs. Wade’ court decision which legalized abortion.  Then, there was the Supreme Court’s decision upholding the assisted suicide or ‘right to die’ law in Oregon.  The ‘culture of death’ is becoming the law of the land.  As Catholics and as Knights of Columbus, we should be opposing this ‘culture of death’; instead, we should be living and supporting a ‘culture of love’.

The following from Pope John Paul II is a reminder of why all human life is precious and why we should be opposed to the ‘culture of death’:
”All human life – from the moment of conception and through all subsequent stages – is sacred, because human life is created in the image and likeness of God.  Nothing surpasses the greatness or dignity of a human person.  Human life is precious because it is the gift of a God whose love is infinite; and when God gives life, it is forever.”

If you were able to attend the January meeting, you saw a television news clip on the Garden of Innocents and the Knights of Columbus support for this tremendous project.  This is a great example of a ‘culture of love’.  Thanks to Brother Ray Thomson for taping this news item and bringing it to the meeting.

My thanks to all Brother Knights who attended the Corporate Communion on January 22nd.  Unfortunately, we were not able to get together for brunch after Mass.  Hopefully, we’ll be able to get together for brunch after the next Corporate Communion.

There’s a lot of interest in the Fourth Degree Exemplification on February 18th.  Due to Brother Pat Burke’s efforts in getting everything organized, a record number of candidates from our Council will be going through the Exemplification.  In addition, a number of Brothers who are already Fourth Degree, will be attending to support and encourage the candidates.  It should be a great Exemplification.

Make sure you bring all of your aluminum cans from the January bowl games and playoffs to the aluminum can drive the first weekend in February.  Also, save the ones from Superbowl weekend and bring them to aluminum can drive in March.  Thanks to the proceeds from collecting the aluminum cans, our Council was able to make a $1,000 donation to the St. Timothy mortgage reduction fund.  Thanks to everyone involved in the process of dealing with the aluminum cans.
In closing, I ask you all to remember:

  • In the words of Pope John Paul II, “Christianity is not for the sacristy and sanctuary alone … It is a call to action”.  Be an active Knight.
  • Practice you’re A-B-C’s: Application (carry a form 100), Badge (wear it!), Crucifix (carry your finger rosary or wear a cross).

Again, Happy New Year to you all,
Frank
