Protecting Catholic Families for Generations

Message From the Grand Knight

Dear Brother Knights,
Starting anew! A new Columbian year – new officers – new committee directors - - - and lots of fond memories.  The Officer Installation, Golf Outing and BBQ held at Brother Bob and Lady Carol Wasieko’s home on Sunday, June 25 was exquisite, fun, and well-attended.  While I proudly accept the honor and challenge to serve as your Grand Knight for the coming year, I also recognize that the shoes of newly designated Past Grand Knight Frank Tooker and his predecessors are going to be tough to fill.  Yet, as I have watched my brother Knights in action these past few years, I also realize that our strength comes from the very principles outlined by our founder, Father Michael J. McGivney.  These principles of charity, unity, fraternity, patriotism, and defense of priesthood are derived from the truths of religion and serve as the foundation of our every activity.
Before we move forward, I want to take a moment to congratulate Brother Pat Burke as the recipient of the Knight of the Year Award.  Brother Pat’s enthusiasm, dedication, and contributions to the Knights are symbolic of all of our aspirations.  Deeply-routed in our traditions is that of family and Brother Tim Dempsey and Lady Mary were recognized as our Family of the Year.  Both are most active in the Church and Council activities and this Award is truly well deserved.  Congratulations!
In selecting the Committee Directors for the coming year, I was mindful of how the Knights creativity is manifested in numerous programs and projects directed to the benefit of their fellowman.  It is through this strength and perseverance that we are assured that these programs are operated effectively and brought to positive conclusions.  However, they cannot do it alone.  As Knights, we are all called to serve and we are men of action.  I have been so proud to note our accomplishments as a team of Knights through our participations in the church picnics, various ministries, Adoration, Easter parking, Lenten soup suppers, Mothers Day flowers, contributions to worthy causes and many more.  My goal is to have every Knight involved in some activity.  When called, be generous with your time!
Pope Benedict’s first encyclical, God is Love, reminds us that “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” and love brings -  is -  charity.  Charity is one of the principles of our Order.  Isn’t that what we are all about?

Yours in Christ

From the Financial Secretary

With the current Columbian year drawing to a rapid close, several reports are being filed with the Office of the Supreme Council.  A brief description of what is being done along these lines is as follows:

Refund Support Vocations Program (RSVP).
This report is due at Supreme by June 30th.  It is completed and was sent to Supreme on June 6.  The Knights of Columbus launched the RSVP Program in 1981.  Under this program, local K of C councils agree to make an annual contribution of $500.00 or more to an individual seminarian to help with his educational expenses.  Councils can sponsor more than one seminarian if their resources permit.  In each case, the minimum annual contribution is $500.00 for each seminarian.  For every $500.00 donated the individual council is eligible for a refund of $100.00 from the Supreme Council.  Council 10802 has again made this contribution and has applied for its refund.

Columbian Award Application.
This application is due at Supreme by June 30th.  It is completed and was sent to Supreme on June 14th.  Councils deemed outstanding in their implementation of the Service Program for the respective Columbian year are eligible to receive the Supreme Council’s COLUMBIAN AWARD.  The award is a tangible testimony of the efficiency, industry and excellent activity program of the council.  Each fraternal year the Order recognizes council achievements in membership recruitment and retention, service programming and promotion of the insurance program through the Founders, and Star Council awards.  I am proud to report that under the superb guidance of Grand Knight, Frank Tooker and Program Director Mark Zecca, your council has fulfilled the many obligations necessary for consideration of this award for this fraternal year.

Report of Council Officers chosen for the 2006/2007 Columbian year.
This report is due at Supreme by July 1. Subsequent to the June 13th meeting, when all of the officers were voted on, this report was completed and sent to Supreme on June 20th.

Service Program Personnel Report for the Term July 1, 2006-June 30th, 2007.
This report is due at Supreme by August 1, 2006.  Our newly elected Grand Knight, John Ferber, is currently working on the positions for this report and will make the data available in appropriate time for me to submit this report to Supreme.  Names of the persons appointed to the various positions will be presented in the August edition of the Knight Time.

A note of "Thank You."
Let me take this opportunity to graciously thank the ten brothers who helped me with the BBQ at the June 4th Parish Pentecost Picnic.  The event was a tremendous success.  A big thank you to the ten brothers and a special thank you to Bros. Dennis Bowman and Michael Bull for their specific effort.

Yours in Christ
Roy Gall
