Dear Brother Knights,
Starting anew! A new Columbian year – new officers – new committee directors - - - and lots of fond memories. The Officer Installation, Golf Outing and BBQ held at Brother Bob and Lady Carol Wasieko’s home on Sunday, June 25 was exquisite, fun, and well-attended. While I proudly accept the honor and challenge to serve as your Grand Knight for the coming year, I also recognize that the shoes of newly designated Past Grand Knight Frank Tooker and his predecessors are going to be tough to fill. Yet, as I have watched my brother Knights in action these past few years, I also realize that our strength comes from the very principles outlined by our founder, Father Michael J. McGivney. These principles of charity, unity, fraternity, patriotism, and defense of priesthood are derived from the truths of religion and serve as the foundation of our every activity.
Before we move forward, I want to take a moment to congratulate Brother Pat Burke as the recipient of the Knight of the Year Award. Brother Pat’s enthusiasm, dedication, and contributions to the Knights are symbolic of all of our aspirations. Deeply-routed in our traditions is that of family and Brother Tim Dempsey and Lady Mary were recognized as our Family of the Year. Both are most active in the Church and Council activities and this Award is truly well deserved. Congratulations!
In selecting the Committee Directors for the coming year, I was mindful of how the Knights creativity is manifested in numerous programs and projects directed to the benefit of their fellowman. It is through this strength and perseverance that we are assured that these programs are operated effectively and brought to positive conclusions. However, they cannot do it alone. As Knights, we are all called to serve and we are men of action. I have been so proud to note our accomplishments as a team of Knights through our participations in the church picnics, various ministries, Adoration, Easter parking, Lenten soup suppers, Mothers Day flowers, contributions to worthy causes and many more. My goal is to have every Knight involved in some activity. When called, be generous with your time!
Pope Benedict’s first encyclical, God is Love, reminds us that “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” and love brings - is - charity. Charity is one of the principles of our Order. Isn’t that what we are all about?
Yours in Christ |
